As a mum to be and keen to breastfeed my newborn child, one of my concerns was would I be able to find comfortable, stylish, yet discreet clothing to wear. I wanted to be able to go ‘out and about’ with my new baby, but knew I wouldn’t feel totally relaxed feeding him in a public place if the clothes I wore were too revealing!!

Ben was born in January 2005, certainly not a time of year that I wanted to be exposing my midriff to the elements, neither did I want the rest of the world to see the post birth flab that lay beneath my winter layers!!

So I set about looking for clothes that I could breastfeed discreetly in. I couldn’t believe how limited the choice was and neither could I believe how frumpy and unflattering many of the garments were. I’m no fashion guru, but I didn’t really find the thought of wearing clothes with poppers and buttons across the front of them particularly appealing!

After many hours of internet searching I came upon an American site selling what looked to be my idea of the perfect top to breastfeed in. It was a vest top that incorporated a bra, with a built in shelf to place breast pads. It could be worn as underwear or as a top during warmer months.

So, I immediately ordered two – they were probably one of the best and most practical purchases I made. I don’t think I wore anything else during the 8 months I fed Ben – wearing one whilst washing the other.

I decided there and then that I wanted to make these tops easily available to other mums like me – who want to be able to breastfeed their children in comfort and as discreetly as possible.

So in May this year I took the plunge and launched Made4Mums, a website where these amazing ‘Glamourmom’ tops are available for sale to UK customers.

In November I’m expecting my second baby, so once again I’m on the look out for any products which will help make my life as a mum easier and more comfortable. I will endeavour to source and sell through this website any amazing, ‘I can’t live without it’ products that I happen to come across – so please keep checking back to see what ‘New Products’ are available from time to time!
